The gaming layer of Arbitrum! Play awesome Games, Earn, and Trade!
Gaming is a $246 Billion industry with a fast year-to-year growth outpacing other entertainment sectors. However, the gaming industry has long been plagued by inefficiencies when it comes to their in-game economies, while Web3 games have been slow to adapt experiences similar to Web2 games. There are several major inefficiencies that the Plays Ecosystem wishes to address.
Web3 capabilities remain underutilized: The full potential of Web3 capabilities remains largely untapped. Within Web3 gaming, there's a growing trend where developers repackage Web2 games as Web3 without fully harnessing the blockchain's capabilities. These games usually target gaming niches where the advantages of Blockchain provide lower added value to the product. These games ride the wave of the Web3 hype without providing any long-term value to users or investors.
PlaysRare emphasizes games that prioritize collecting and item rarity, such as Gacha Games, Monster Collector Games, Card Games, Autobattlers, RPG Games, and others. Moreover, Web3 assets and tokens should be entirely cross-game across the ecosystem. Eliminating trapped value and maximizing item value is the primary focus when designing the economies of games within the Plays Ecosystem. Concepts such as hard ownership, interoperability, cross-game assets, rarities, and collecting should define a Web3 gaming ecosystem.
Hard Ownership refers to the absolute ownership of digital assets by players, facilitated by blockchain technology. Unlike traditional games where items, characters, or any in-game assets remain under the control of the game's developers or publishers, hard ownership ensures that players have real, transferable ownership of their digital assets. This is implemented through Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) or other blockchain-based assets that the players can sell, trade, or keep. Hard ownership is the solution to Trapped Value. Cross-game means that assets from one game can be used in another, thanks to the shared standards and infrastructure of the ecosystem. This allows for a more connected and dynamic gaming ecosystem where, for example, a character or item from one game could be utilized in a different game, opening up unique cross-game experiences and value. Rarities in Web3 gaming mean items or characters are scarce and hard to obtain. However, the distinction in Web3 gaming is that the rarity and uniqueness of these assets are verifiably encoded on the blockchain, providing transparent proof of the rarity and ensuring that the digital asset is genuinely limited in quantity, which can affect its value and desirability. Collecting takes on a new level with the integration of blockchain. It's not just about gathering items within a game for personal achievement or game progression; itโs about building a collection of digital assets that hold real-world value. These collections can serve various purposes, from personal satisfaction to investment and trading on the PlaysRare Marketplace, making collecting a more integral and potentially rewarding part of the gaming experience.
Inefficiencies in gas fees in Web3 gaming: Inefficiencies in gas fees in Web3 gaming persist due to the trade-off between gas prices and spam in a permissionsless blockchain. High gas prices discourage spam, but it can also make creating some applications prohibitively expensive, or have to move much of the computation and data storage off-chain. These inefficiencies are compounded by network congestion, fluctuating gas prices, scalability limitations, protocol inefficiencies, and the demand for decentralized applications (dApps) competing for limited block space. As a result, players and developers alike encounter elevated transaction costs, and delays in processing times, hindering the seamless and cost-effective exchange of virtual assets within Web3 gaming ecosystems.
Low-security environments: Most gaming projects and blockchains prioritize achieving high performance by compromising their security model by using more centralized blockchains or blockchains with poor security guarantees (PoS with low TVL). This trade-off often involves sacrificing security in favor of optimizing speed and efficiency. These systems may be using blockchains with a fraction of the security that Ethereum offers, which we believe has the ultimate security model for a smart contract blockchain. High TVL is usually a part of generalised blockchains such as Arbitrum or Ethereum and TVL is usually lower on highly specialized gaming blockchains.
No account abstraction: Most blockchain games require users to possess a Web3 wallet and cover gas fees, indicating a lack of Dapp abstraction. Ideally, users should engage with games without realizing they're operating within a Web3 environment, yet still reaping the benefits like asset ownership, provable outcomes, and security. Achieving seamless integration also requires gasless transactions, which developers are reluctant to do due to the gas fees involved on general-purpose blockchains.
Our vision is to create the Plays Blockchain, a gaming-optimized layer 3, a highly scalable, fully EVM-compatible chain with ultra-low gas fees using $PLAYS and $GEMS as its native currencies, and running onArbitrum in the Ethereum Ecosystem.
Built to seamlessly integrate with Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) wallets such as Metamask and Coinbase Wallet, the Plays Blockchain operates as a layer 3, leveraging Ethereum's robust infrastructure for security, and reliability. Central to its ecosystem are the native currencies $PLAYS and $GEMS, which serve their unique use-cases within the Plays Blockchain.
In addition to this, we separate blockchain transactions into two categories:
An asset transfer with monetary value, ERC-20, ERC-721, and ERC-1155 transfers.
General record-keeping blockchain transactions with no monetary value.
The first category will live on Arbitrum itself, due to it's high TVL and security guarantees. While the second category will be offloaded to the Plays Blockchain.
Unlike many other blockchain networks where users have to pay gas fees to execute transactions or smart contracts, the Plays Blockchain removes this barrier by eliminating gas fees, as developers are incentivized to use gasless smart contracts exclusively. Developers can stake $PLAYS Tokens on Arbitrum (L2) and receive the necessary gas to cover their L3 costs. This makes transactions more accessible and cost-effective for users and developers, particularly for those requiring a lot of on-chain transactions.
$GEMS is a decentralized stablecoin that acts as a unit of account to simplify purchases within games and protect users from price fluctuations. From the player's perspective using $GEMS is the same as using any in-game currency in a Web2 game. $GEMS can solely be created by Lootboxes or staking $PLAYS. $GEMS used for purchases is then burned to maintain a stable supply within the community and avoid inflation.
The Plays Blockchain offers a compelling combination of staking-for-gas, low-gas transactions, EVM compatibility, native currencies ($PLAYS and $GEMS), and the robust security of the Ethereum Network.
๐ธBuy $PLAYS๐ฎ All about gaming: All our projects revolve around gaming, whether it's playing games, trading on the marketplace, creating fun experiences, or infrastructure for games. Plays is all about gaming!
๐ Diversified Gaming Portfolio: Rather than a single project, the Plays ecosystem encompasses many gaming projects spread across various niches, such as Gacha Games, Monster Collector Games, Card Games, Autobattlers, RPG Games, and others.
๐ฒReal Revenue: Real revenue generation is the process by which we generate income from our in-house operations, products, and services. This revenue is then used for further development or burning the $PLAYS token.
๐ฅ Periodic Burns: A part of the revenue used across the ecosystem will be used to burn the supply of the $PLAYS tokens. This will reduce the supply and increase the price of the token, thus creating value for our investors.
๐ Staking (Coming Soon): Staking rewards participants who lock their $PLAYS for extended periods, fostering confidence in the Ecosystem and deterring pump-and-dump schemes through generating trust.
๐ Launchpad: Community games are voted for and funded through the Plays Launchpad. Unlike other launchpads, games bootstrapped through the Plays Launchpad are required to integrate the $PLAYS Token, and $GEMS Token into their Games.
๐ผ๏ธ Players NFT-s (Coming Soon): The Players NFT will be the official governance collection of the ecosystem. The NFT holders constitute the voting body of the Plays Community; minting fees will be utilized to burn $PLAYS tokens.
